KIDS FEET PROBLEMS

Flat Feet

Have you noticed that your child has flat feet?

Do they continuously trip over?
Do they complain that they get tired or their feet are tired after walking?

Are you noticing that your kids are not participating in sport and other activities with their friends?

Flat feet or fallen arches is very common in children. Many children remain symptom free for years. However, in many cases, flat feet continue into adult life and start to cause issues, like pain and injuries.

The flat foot type forces muscles of the foot and leg to work harder compared to a foot with the support of a constant arch. This can cause leg and foot problems, injuries and pain.

severs disease treatment

Severs Disease

Many children are diagnosed with ‘growing pains’. Please consider having your children’s feet and legs checked if they are causing them pain and discomfort.

On many occasions, growing pains can be helped and even stopped by simply looking at how your child walks or runs. Our expert Podiatrist will do a comprehensive assessment and provide your child with a tailored management plan to relieve the pain.

Severs Disease is a common condition in boys between the ages of 8-13. It is caused by a mismatch between the growth of the calf bones and muscles, causing pain in the heel. If your child is getting pain in the back of the heel, book in for an initial biomechanical assessment to get their feet and legs checked out and to find out how we can help!

Intoeing

Intoeing is when the feet point inwards while standing, walking or running. This is very common in babies and young children, and often referred to as pigeon toed.

If the child is under the age of 2 years, this is caused by the lower leg bone (tibia) turning inwards. If the child is over the age of 2 years, this is due to the thigh bone turning inwards. In both cases, it causes the knees, feet and toes to point inwards.

If the child’s has only the front part of the foot turned in, that is not intoeing, this is referred to as ‘club foot‘ and is something usually picked up at birth.

If you are concerned about the position of your kid’s feet or legs, book in for an initial biomechanical assessment. The Podiatrist will check their feet and legs, and will give your child a tailored management plan on how to treat this condition.
